STANDARDIZED TESTS

Standardized tests used to assess students' knowledge in the areas of reading, math, and science as well as in specific content areas. The State of Texas Academic Assessment of Readiness (STAAR) is just one of the various tests students must take as a means of measuring their achievement.  Other than STAAR, all secondary schools require a score from a standardized test in order to be eligible for acceptance.  Good performance on standardized tests is important because they are a condition for acceptance into most undergraduate and graduate programs or they may be required to obtain certification. Standardized tests are timed, meaning students are given a certain amount of time to complete each section of the test.
